The Wilston State School P&C promotes the interests of the children of Wilson State School and assists with the further development and improvement at Wilston State School. The P&C also works with the principal and staff of Wilston State School to foster parent teacher cooperation and provide advice and assistance as required. It provides parents with the opportunity it be involved in their child’s education and promotes social, networking and community service opportunities. Sub committees of the P&C include the Swimming club, Tuckshop/bookshop and Wilston kids care, all of these are valuable services to the Wilson State school community. You can make a valuable contribution to the Wilston State School through membership of the P&C.
The Wilston State School P&C is governed by a constitution approved by the Director General for Education. The provisions of the constitution of a P&C Association are laid down in law in the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 and the Education (General Provisions) Regulations 2006 and must be followed. The constitution can be found at Wilston State School P&C website and general P&C information can be obtained from the Queensland Council of Parents and Citizens Association Inc.
Membership/meetings
Membership of the P&C is open to all interested parties and your involvement can be as little as attending the monthly meeting.
Wilsto State School P&C meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7.00 pmin ‘D’ Block. Attendees at the meetings include parents, teachers, administration staff and Principals.
A broad range of content is discussed, reviewed, presented and/or voted on in the P&C meetings.
In February each year the Wilston State School P&C Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held and the executive comprising the P&C President, Treasurer, Vice-president and Secretary are elected. Any member is entitled to nominate for an executive position and newcomers are welcome.
Events/fundraising
During the year, the Wilston State School P&C hosts and coordinates a number of events to bring together the school community and to raise funds to assist with the P&C’s financial goals for the year. Past events have included Beach party, Art show, Fete, Disco, and June-tober fest.
Through fundraising the P&C provided money to the Wilston State School enabling the purchase of additional materials and equipment. In prior years the P&C has donated over $150,000 for the school to:
purchase LCD interactive touchscreen units
assist with curriculum activities
buy reading and literacy material
provide sporting bursaries for students selected for metropolitan and district sporting teams.
The P&C also encourages that year group events are convened to ensure parents and families of children in year groups interact outside of the classroom. If you have an idea come along to a P&C meeting to see if the P&C can provide support for the function. Events can only happen thanks to volunteers that pitch in and help. If you have the time, the P&C has a need.
